ICE Transfers After Yolo Custody

Immigration custody is a separate civil custody path. Research notes that ICE detainers are requests to jails or other confinement facilities to facilitate transfer to ICE custody. If a Yolo jail record says the person was released to another agency, ask for the manner of release and receiving agency before treating the event as community release.

How to Search ICE ODLS

1. Open ICE ODLS at https://locator.ice.gov/.
2. Search by A-number when available, or by name, country of birth, and birth date as USA.gov describes.
3. Understand the time window: research says ODLS covers current ICE custody and LawHelpCA notes recently released ICE custody within the last six days.
4. For the Yolo criminal release event, separately check the Sheriff's custody line, VINE, court records, or CPRA.
5. If the person was transferred, ask which agency received custody and whether any public release manner can be provided.

ICE Locator Records

ICE ODLS can help locate a person in immigration detention, but it does not explain whether a Yolo criminal case was dismissed, bailed out, sentenced, or transferred. Use the Yolo court record for the criminal case and Sheriff's Records for the county release manner.

ICE's locating-individuals material describes ODLS as a public web-based system for family members, legal representatives, and the public to locate people in detention. The source is distinct from county jail, state prison, BOP federal prison, and probation records. Matching the right system prevents a common error: treating immigration release status as proof of the criminal-case outcome, or treating a Yolo jail release as proof that no immigration custody followed.

Yolo Release to ICE

ICE custody creates one of the most important distinctions on a released-inmates site. A person can be released from the Yolo criminal hold and still not be released to the community if immigration custody follows. The Yolo release record should be read for the manner of release and any receiving agency information that can be made public. ICE ODLS should then be used for the immigration custody question.

A person who does not appear in ODLS may be outside the covered window, may be in a different system, may have unmatched identifying details, or may not be in ICE custody.

ODLS does not explain the Yolo criminal case. It does not show whether the local case was dismissed, whether bail was posted, whether a sentence was imposed, or whether probation was ordered. Use the court portal and Sheriff's Records for the Yolo event, then use ICE ODLS only for immigration custody. Keeping those two records separate makes the release path more accurate.

Practical ICE Record Checks

When checking ODLS, gather the A-number if available. If not, use full legal name, country of birth, and date of birth as accurately as possible. Names, accents, and spelling variations can affect results. If Yolo Records reports release to another agency but ODLS does not return a match, ask whether the receiving agency can be identified in the public release record and check the timing of the transfer.

For a written Yolo record, file a focused CPRA request for the booking and release episode. Ask for release date and time, manner of release, and receiving agency if publicly releasable. Do not ask the Sheriff's Office to confirm immigration outcomes after ICE custody begins. That question belongs to ICE records and ODLS.

ICE and Yolo Record Boundaries

A Yolo criminal release and an ICE custody event can occur close together, but they are still separate records. The county release record can show that Yolo custody ended or that the person was released to another agency. ODLS can help check immigration custody. The Yolo court record can explain the criminal case event. None of those sources should be made to answer for all three systems at once.

When a person is not found in ODLS, return to the source facts. Check spelling, A-number, country of birth, and the time since release. Then confirm whether Yolo Records actually shows release to ICE or another agency. If the receiving agency is different, use that system instead. If no transfer appears, the release may have been a local criminal release rather than an immigration custody event.

Keep copies of the Yolo case number, booking date, and any A-number apart from each other. They belong to different systems, and each can point to a different record custodian.

If a court order says release but ODLS shows custody, treat that as a separate immigration custody question and verify both records.
