Yolo County Released Inmates
A Yolo County jail release is the end of a booking episode. It is not always proof that the person walked out with no other legal hold. The adult jail path centers on Monroe Detention Center, the Sheriff's Office intake and records point for Yolo bookings. Once the person leaves active custody, the public trail may move from a custody status call to a court minute order, a VINE event, or a California Public Records Act request for the booking and release fields.
The release outcome matters. A person may post bail, be released on their own recognizance, finish a jail term, receive time served, be released after dismissal or sentencing, transfer to CDCR, transfer to another county, or leave Yolo criminal custody because another agency has a hold. The same name can also appear in several systems at once. Yolo jail records explain the local custody event; court records explain the legal order; CDCR, BOP, and ICE systems explain custody after a transfer.
- Release
- The person is no longer held on the specific Yolo jail booking.
- Transfer
- The person left Yolo custody for another agency, court, prison, or detention system.
- Discharge
- A sentence, custody term, or supervision term has ended in the responsible system.
- Detainer
- A request or hold from another agency that can affect when and where a person leaves custody.
Yolo County Release Routes
California law and Yolo County practice make the release route more useful than a simple yes-or-no answer. The Sheriff's Custody FAQ says available custody information may include charges, bail, court date, arresting agency, arrest timing, current custody unit, tentative release date, and holds. Government Code section 7923.610 also points to the public value of the time and manner of release. Those fields help separate a community release from a transfer or hold.
| Route | What it means | Where to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Bail or bond | The person left jail while the case may continue. | Custody line, release record, and Yolo Superior Court minute orders. |
| Own-recognizance release | The court or jail process allowed release without posted bail. | Court order and jail release record. |
| Time served or sentence complete | The custody term ended under the court sentence and credits. | Court sentencing record and Sheriff's release information. |
| Transfer to CDCR | The person left county jail for state prison custody. | Yolo court commitment and CDCR CIRIS. |
| Outside agency hold | Yolo custody may end, but another agency may receive the person. | Sheriff's Records, court record, BOP, ICE ODLS, or the receiving agency. |
Yolo's Alternative Sentencing programs can also make a standard jail search confusing. SWIP and Electronic Monitoring/Home Custody are tied to court-ordered jail commitments, but the person may serve outside standard jail custody after booking and approval. For those cases, compare the court minute order, Alternative Sentencing information, and any custody or VINE status before treating absence from a jail unit as sentence completion.
Yolo County Release Record Fields
A Yolo County release record is usually requested as booking and release information for a named person and date range. California Government Code section 7923.610 requires public release of specified arrest information unless an exception applies. The statute includes identity and description fields, arrest and booking times, arrest location, factual circumstances, bail, and the time and manner of release or the current holding location. Juvenile, sealed, medical, victim, investigative, and confidential material can be restricted.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking date and time | When the Yolo booking episode began. |
| Release date and time | When the person left that jail booking, if releasable. |
| Manner of release | Bail, own recognizance, time served, court order, transfer, or another listed route. |
| Bail amount | The bail amount set, when public and applicable. |
| Charges and arresting agency | The public booking context, subject to exceptions. |
| Holds or receiving agency | Whether another agency affected release or took custody. |
The court record may add the reason for release. Yolo Superior Court's Tyler portal provides Smart Search and hearing search, and its notice says public case search and minute-order access do not require registration. A court minute can show bail posted, own-recognizance release, dismissal, sentence imposed, credits awarded, probation ordered, warrant recall, commitment to CDCR, or release forthwith. The jail record says what happened to custody; the court record usually explains why.
Request Yolo County Release Records
The formal local records route is the Sheriff's California Public Records Act request process. The Sheriff's page says requests without a subpoena, court order, or specific statutory authority are treated as CPRA requests. It also says the office may take up to 10 calendar days to respond, and a report request form or letter may be used. For a release record, ask narrowly for public booking and release information instead of broad case files.
- Identify the person with full name, date of birth if known, approximate arrest date, arresting agency, and case number if available.
- Ask for booking date, release date, manner of release, bail amount, booking charges as public, court date, and any public transfer or hold information.
- Use the Sheriff's form or a letter. Out-of-state requesters may mail the request with a copy of state-issued ID.
- Include the fee if a report copy is requested. The Sheriff's page lists $15 per copy, added fees over 20 pages, and cash or check only.
- Use court records and VINE for faster status checks while waiting for a formal CPRA response.

Retention is different from online visibility. Yolo did not publish a public 24-hour or 72-hour release archive in the reviewed Sheriff's pages. Monthly booking statistics and the MDC lobby press board are public-data channels, but they are not release records for one named person. For older or absent online records, the durable routes are court records, the Sheriff's CPRA process, CDCR records for state prison matters, BOP for federal prison matters, and ICE ODLS for immigration custody.
Yolo County Release Record Law
California Government Code section 7923.610 is the key public-release statute for local arrest and release data. It supports asking for the time and manner of release or the current holding location, subject to safety and investigation exceptions. The Sheriff's CPRA page cites the public-records process and a 10-day response period for determinations. Those rules make CPRA useful for a formal record, but not as the first path for an urgent same-day status check.
Important: a missing online jail entry is not proof of dismissal, innocence, sentence completion, or community release. It can also mean transfer, data delay, sealed status, or another agency hold.
Record cleaning can affect what remains public. California Courts explains that true expungement does not exist in California, but relief may be available depending on the case. Yolo County's 2025 clinic notice described topics such as record reduction, early probation termination, certificates of rehabilitation, sealing eligible arrest records, and 290 registry removal for eligible people. For release research, that means later court relief may change public access or wording, while juvenile and sealed records should not be treated as open adult jail records.
Find Released Yolo County Inmates
The most reliable search path starts by choosing the right custody system. Yolo jail, CDCR state prison, BOP federal prison, and ICE custody each have separate records. For a local adult booking, start with the Sheriff's custody-status line. If the person is no longer in custody, ask whether the public record reflects release, transfer, or another agency hold. That one distinction prevents the most common error: treating "not in Yolo jail" as the same thing as "released to the community."
- Call 530-668-5245 for current Yolo custody status and ask about tentative release date or holds if the person is still in custody.
- Search California VINE for a custody event such as released, pending release, or transferred.
- Search Yolo Superior Court by case number or name for the custody-changing order.
- Use CDCR CIRIS when the person was committed to state prison from Yolo County.
- Use BOP or ICE ODLS for federal prison or immigration custody, not the county jail path.
- File a narrow CPRA request when the public online and phone channels do not provide the release record.
The Sheriff's Custody FAQ is unusually important in Yolo because it names the phone route and the types of information that may be available. It also supports the release-date distinction used on the projected release date page: Yolo jail staff may have a tentative release date, while state-prison release calculations belong to CDCR and its Case Records process.
CDCR Search for Yolo Releases
Use CDCR CIRIS when the person was sentenced to state prison, may still be in state custody, or may have moved from prison to parole. A Yolo County jail booking does not by itself create a CDCR record. The state path begins when Yolo Superior Court commits the person to CDCR or when CDCR has custody or supervision jurisdiction. For Yolo-linked cases, look for Yolo as a commitment county, then compare location, admission data, and any Board of Parole Hearings fields.
| Search field | Best use | Yolo release note |
|---|---|---|
| CDCR number | Most precise state-prison search. | Use it when a court or prison record provides the number. |
| Name | Useful when the number is unknown. | Compare age and commitment county before relying on a match. |
| Current location | Shows whether CDCR still lists a prison location. | A current institution is not a county jail release. |
| BPH dates or outcomes | Shows parole-hearing context when exposed. | A grant is subject to review before release is final. |
The CA.gov CIRIS description says results can include name, CDCR number, age, current location, commitment counties, admission date, and Board of Parole Hearing dates and outcomes for people in CDCR custody. If a person was released to state parole, the verification path moves to DAPO, not the Yolo jail roster.
The CIRIS start page is a useful screenshot source for state release research. The image below comes from the project manifest and shows the state search point used when a Yolo case leaves county jail for CDCR.
Open the CDCR CIRIS public search to confirm current state custody or release-status information.
Use the state result together with the Yolo court record. A commitment county connects the prison case back to Yolo, but it does not place the person in Yolo jail.
Yolo County Recent Releases
Yolo's central local finding is the absence of a clearly identified public 24-hour or 72-hour release feed on the reviewed Sheriff's pages. Many counties publish a recent-release list; Yolo points instead to the custody phone line, California VINE, booking statistics, the MDC lobby press board, court records, and CPRA. That changes the workflow. A person-specific status check works better than browsing for everyone released in a short window.
The booking-statistics page is still useful because it is an official Yolo public booking-data channel. It provides consolidated monthly booking statistics for unincorporated areas and notes that copies of the past week's arrest reports filed by the Sheriff's Office are available for viewing on the Press Board in the Monroe Detention Center lobby. It does not provide release reason, release date, or booking photos for a named person.
Yolo County's booking-statistics page shows the official context for booking data rather than a public release roster.
For a person-level release answer, pair the statistics context with the custody line, VINE, Yolo Superior Court, and a narrow CPRA request.
Yolo Release Alerts and Court Checks
California VINE is the official local notification layer for Yolo custody changes. The Sheriff's VINE page says users can search custody information and register for phone or email alerts when a person is released, pending release for sentenced people with scheduled dates, or transferred to another county facility or state prison. VINE is not a full court disposition. It reports custody events. A transferred status may mean the person left Yolo jail but did not return to the community.
Yolo Superior Court fills the legal gap. The Tyler portal provides Smart Search, hearing search, and public minute-order access without registration according to the portal notice. If a court ordered release but VINE or the jail phone line has not changed, allow for processing, hold checks, and data feed timing. Court and jail systems can update at different moments, especially after same-day hearings.
Federal and immigration releases use different systems. BOP says its locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present, and its records page explains that a past release date with no facility location means the person is no longer in BOP custody, though another system may still apply. ICE ODLS is for adults currently in ICE custody or recently in CBP custody for more than 48 hours, and LawHelpCA notes ODLS can show people released from ICE custody within the last six days. ICE release is civil immigration custody, not a Yolo criminal-case disposition.
Yolo County Post-Release Supervision
Post-release supervision in Yolo splits between state parole and county probation or local supervision. State parole is handled by CDCR's Division of Adult Parole Operations. County probation is handled by the Yolo County Probation Department. A released person may be on neither. The court order, sentencing record, and releasing agency determine the answer.
| Supervision path | Responsible office | Release-record cue |
|---|---|---|
| State parole | CDCR DAPO, Vallejo and Woodland unit listed in Fairfield. | CDCR commitment, CIRIS/BPH context, or parole release. |
| County probation | Yolo County Probation offices in Woodland and West Sacramento. | Court probation order, revocation, modification, or termination. |
| Alternative custody | Sheriff's Alternative Sentencing at Leinberger Center. | SWIP, electronic monitoring, or home custody tied to a court commitment. |
Yolo's local detail matters here. CDCR's Northern Region directory lists "Vallejo and Woodland" at a Fairfield address, while county probation has local offices in Woodland and West Sacramento. Alternative Sentencing is housed at the Leinberger Center. For a full supervision workflow, use the Yolo County parole and probation page after checking the court record.
Yolo Release Logistics After Custody
Yolo publishes intake and reporting logistics, but not a public rule that all releases happen at a fixed time. The Custody FAQ says a person with a court-ordered report-to-jail date must enter the 24 Hour Lobby by 9:00 a.m. for processing. That is a reporting rule, not a universal release schedule. For actual release timing, use the custody line and VINE. If the release follows a same-day court order, the court minute may appear before jail processing is complete.
Bail is a separate angle. The Custody FAQ lists bail as a public custody field available by phone, and Government Code section 7923.610 includes bail amount and release manner among public arrest-release information, subject to exceptions. A bail release means the person may be out of jail while the case continues. The next Yolo Superior Court hearing and case status remain important.
Property pickup is also separate from release. Yolo Property & Evidence releases items by appointment only, requires valid government photo ID, and allows an authorized designee with written permission. The page says a recent Yolo booking photo may be used for identification during property pickup. That confirms booking photos can exist as operational records, but it does not create a public mugshot gallery.
Yolo Release Lookup Systems
Released and still-in-custody searches use different records. A live custody channel is useful before release. After release, the lasting record may be a CPRA response, a court minute order, a CDCR status, a BOP locator record, or an ICE ODLS result. Use the system that last had custody.
| Question | Best source | What it can show |
|---|---|---|
| Is the person in Yolo jail now? | Sheriff custody line | Current custody, charges, bail, tentative release date, holds. |
| Did a Yolo booking end? | Sheriff Records / CPRA | Release date, release manner, transfer or hold details if public. |
| Why did custody change? | Yolo Superior Court | Minute order, sentence, bail change, dismissal, probation, commitment. |
| Was the person sent to state prison? | CDCR CIRIS | State custody, commitment county, admission data, BPH context. |
| Was it a federal or ICE matter? | BOP locator or ICE ODLS | Federal release date, ICE custody, or recent ICE release window. |
Note: when one source is silent, check the next custody system before drawing a conclusion.
Yolo County Release Facilities
Yolo's facility map helps prevent wrong-route searches. Monroe Detention Center is the primary adult booking and records anchor. Leinberger Memorial Center is important for lower-level sentenced and alternative-custody context, but the Sheriff's current page says the new LMC is not yet holding inmates. Court holding is tied to court appearance and orders. Juvenile detention is not an adult public released-inmate lookup source. CDCR, DAPO, BOP, and ICE each use their own release systems.
- Monroe Detention Center is the Yolo adult intake, custody, and records starting point.
- Leinberger Memorial Center is local lower-level and alternative-custody context, not the first current release roster.
- Yolo County Court Holding connects release orders to jail processing.
- Yolo County Juvenile Detention Facility is listed for scope, not adult public release lookup.
- CDCR / CIRIS covers state-prison custody and release paths after a Yolo commitment.
- CDCR DAPO Northern Region handles state parole supervision for the area.
- Yolo County Probation handles local probation and PRCS-related public contacts.
- BOP Inmate Locator covers federal prison releases.
- ICE ODLS covers immigration detention and recent ICE release lookups.
