The Sheriff's facility page describes it as the primary intake point for all individuals booked in Yolo County and as holding both pre-sentenced and sentenced people who do not qualify for less restrictive settings. When someone leaves MDC, the record may say release to the community, bail or bond release, release after time served, release by court order, transfer to another county, transfer to CDCR, or release to another agency.

That distinction matters because "not in Yolo custody" is not always the same as free from custody. A jail release to CDCR, federal authorities, ICE, or another county is a change of custodian. For a community release, the Yolo booking and release record remains the local source; for a state prison release, use CDCR/CIRIS; for federal custody use BOP; and for immigration custody use ICE ODLS.

How to Confirm an MDC Release

The Custody FAQ says available information may include custody status, charges, bail, court date, arresting agency, arrest time, current custody unit, tentative release date, and holds placed by other agencies. If the person is not in custody, ask whether the record reflects release, transfer, or an outside hold.

2. Search California VINE for a release, pending-release, or transfer notification tied to Yolo County.
3. Search the Yolo Superior Court portal for the minute order or register entry that explains bail, release, sentencing, dismissal, or transfer.
4. Use the Sheriff's CPRA process when you need the public booking and release fields in writing.

Monroe Detention Center Records and Contact

The Sheriff's records route is centered at MDC. The Crime Desk is part of the Records Section at Monroe Detention Center, 140A Tony Diaz Drive, Woodland, CA 95776. Research notes that the Records Section accepts report requests seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., while the Crime Desk responds Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For a release/discharge record, ask narrowly for the public booking date, release date and time, manner of release, bail amount if public, charges listed at booking if public, court date if public, and whether the person was transferred to another agency. The Sheriff's CPRA page says requests may take up to 10 calendar days for response, and report copies are listed at $15 with additional fees for reports over 20 pages.

About Monroe Detention Center

MDC opened in 1988. The Sheriff's Office describes it as one of two detention facilities operated by the Yolo County Sheriff's Office and equipped to house people across nearly every security classification. In 2018, an AB 900-funded remodel and expansion added medical and mental health units, a kitchen and laundry facility, booking-area renovation, and raised capacity to 345 beds.

Transfers, Holds, and Detainers

If MDC shows a release to another agency, follow the receiving system rather than assuming community release. ICE explains detainers as requests to jails or other confinement facilities to facilitate transfer to ICE custody, and Yolo research also notes historical ICE transfer context. Current confirmation should rely on Yolo Records, court records, and the correct outside locator, not on old transfer counts or unofficial mirrors.

MDC Release Record Sequence

The best MDC release check moves from immediate status to durable records. The custody line answers whether the person is currently held in Yolo custody and whether a tentative release date or hold is public. VINE can show a release, pending release, or transfer event for a named person. Yolo Superior Court can show the order that caused the custody change. The CPRA route is the written record path when a person needs the public booking and release fields after the event has passed.

Each source answers a different question. MDC Records can speak to jail processing and public release fields. The court portal can explain bail, own-recognizance release, sentence, dismissal, warrant recall, probation, or commitment. CDCR, BOP, and ICE answer only after the case has moved outside county jail. A missing current-custody entry should therefore be checked against the next system before a release conclusion is drawn.

Property After MDC Release

Property release is a separate task from custody release. Yolo Property & Evidence releases property by appointment only, requires valid state or government photo identification, and allows an authorized designee with written permission. The research also notes that a recent Yolo booking photo may be used for identification when property is picked up. That point supports the existence of operational booking photos, but it does not turn MDC into a public mugshot feed.

For a person who has just left MDC, property questions should go through Property & Evidence, while release-record questions should go through the jail records or CPRA path. Ask Records for release date, release manner, and transfer details. Ask Property & Evidence about the appointment process, identification, and who may pick up property. If the court ordered release but property pickup is delayed, the property issue does not by itself change the custody status.
